 Action

The definition of action is the fact or process of doing something to achieve something. The definition doesn't look to intriguing and it actually looks kind of boring but it's completely different to the genre of film. This is one of them most popular film genres in the world and it attracts many people. They are usually made to see fighting scenes and keep people on their toes. Most action movies need a lot of money for the scenes, special effects, and the explosions that happen on set.

Content:

An action film is a film genre where the protagonist go into a series of events throughout the film like fighting, violence, frantic chases, and a lot more.

Example: The film Terminator uses a lot of violence, fighting, and chasing when the protagonist terminator goes into a lot of action scenes throughout the movie.

A good action film always has a backstory that gives the audience an emotional connection with the main character or the main group of people. The hero usually has a goal and the point is to have the audience to feel the trouble and problems the hero has to go to.

Example: In the film Superman the audience has an emotional connection with him and they want him to defeat the villains as much as he does in the movie.

Production techniques:

Establishing shots of the big open environment where your action is taking place. An establishing shot sets the stage. For too many would-be filmmakers, the establishing shot becomes the sole perspective. Don’t let that happen to you. When you’re shooting your establishing shot, try some slow pans or tilts to give you something to work with during your edit later. Depending on your establishing shot, it can look like a still frame, and in that case, having a pan across the scene is very nice.

Another important technique that people need to use is contrast. An action film needs to look intense and edgy. One of the best ways to make it look like that you need contrast.

Marketing:

The action genre usually targets ages 10-40. A lot of teengaers love this genre and the adrenaline rush watching these intense movies. As the age starts getting older they lose interest and they kind of target the younger audience. These movies are also watched by both male and females, they are usually targeted towards the male gender. The violence, fighting, and all the blood that goes into it appeals towards the men liking.

Samples:

The film die hard is a classic action film that takes place in Los Angeles. An NYPD officer tries to save his wife and several others taken hostage by German terrorists during a Christmas party at the Nakatomi plaza in Los Angeles. There is a bunch of violence and gun fights during this movie which is what makes it such an iconic action movie.

Mission Impossible is also a very famous action film with a very high budget with all of the action scenes they did. This is a series of movies. The plot follows Ethan Hunt and his mission to uncover the mole who has framed him for the murders of most of his Impossible Missions Force  team. Work on the script had begun early with filmmaker Sydney Pollack on board, before De Palma, Steven Zaillian, David Koepp, and Robert Towne were brought in.
